Thursday 26 June - Conference: Tourism, Expatriation and Safety/Security.
Seminar of the French High Commitee for Civil Defence (HCFDC) in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the participation of GEOS.?Since the 1950s, international tourism has grown at an exponential rate. In 2000, 700 million people travelled worldwide, as compared to 25 million in 1950. The attacks of September 11, 2001 marked a turning point for the global tourism industry and international corporations. The situation suddenly changed and the tourism industry now faces real threats: terrorism, natural disasters, political unrest and health scares. This broad range of risk leads to an analysis of the means and ways needed to ensure the security of tourists and expatriates the world over. Security is high on the agenda of all the stakeholders. Tourism industry professionals, companies and governments are being led to work closely together in an effort to prevent and manage the risk, respond rapidly to a given problem and deliver intelligence and expert solutions in order to counter emerging threats. The objective of this conference is to highlight the importance of intelligence sharing between nation states and the need for comprehensive travel security planning. Secondly, it will be interesting to examine real-life crisis case studies, the resources required for successful crisis management and the mechanisms in place for bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the different countries and stakeholders. Didier Ranchon, vice-president of GEOS European Business Development and Louis Caprioli, GEOS Special Advisor, will address two round table discussion groups, respectively entitled « Crisis management » and « Intelligence sharing and multilateral cooperation».
