International Security - Oil & Gas CONSTRUCTION : SOCIO-ECONOMIC PROGRAMS - CHAD / CAMEROON - APRIL 2000 An oil and gas exploration and production company decided to establish in agreement with the local authorities a socio-economic program to provide relief to local communities. GEOS deployed a socio-economic officer who established a good working environment and proceeded to place the local community at the heart of the development project. The project was part of an effective sustainable development approach that respected the local environment. This program was compatible with the operational and financial goals of the client. Personnel and stakeholders in the project all lent their support to the project. The project of the corporation blended in with and was supported by the local community and authorities. Sustainable development programs established by GEOS enhanced the corporate image of the client. And the project made a substantial contribution to resolving local humanitarian issues.
International Security - Pipeline SITE SECURITY - GEORGIA - 2002 The security of an ambitious construction program for a pipeline to cross Georgia was awarded to a GEOS Security Manager in 2002. Our expert coordinates and manages all the local security personnel for the mobile production sites.
International Security - Oil & Gas CONSTRUCTION : SITE SECURITY - WEST AFRICA - JANUARY 2003 An international consortium commenced drilling and the construction of a pipeline in a country known to be a high security risk (war zone, poverty, etc.). The main stakeholder of the consortium called on GEOS to provide personnel with comprehensive security measures. GEOS drafted security plans and procedures. We set up an operational team in order to train and supervise 600 local security guards and to manage local socio-economic programs and the day-to-day running of the site. Our team acted as liaison between local security forces, site personnel, regional authorities and the client. The project was completed on schedule and without any major security disruption.
International Security - Mining PRODUCTION: QUALITY CONTROL - APRIL 2004 A mining corporation calls on GEOS to provide decision making support relative to a mining project. GEOS conducts a comprehensive impact study, with an analysis of the positions of all stakeholders, both local and international. GEOS monitors the environment and delivers frequent reports to the client on the positions of the different key stakeholders. The corporation benefited from high-performance decision-making instruments and advice and took the decision to go forward with its project. We currently provide operational support to the firm for the management of labour and social relations based on an CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) policy.
International Security - Oil & Gas PRE-PROJECT PLANNING : COUNTRY RISK TRACKING – TRAINING FOR EXPATRIATES WEST AFRICA - JUNE 2004 A major oil corporation planned to drill in a high-risk country. In order to protect its personnel, the corporation called on GEOS to assess the security situation. Our Risk Tracking Centre began to monitor the threatscope on behalf of the corporation. We identified the threats and began advance security planning. We then implemented business travel and journey management procedures. All personnel received pre-departure training sessions from a GEOS expert. Expatriates working on the project did not encounter any security problem. The training sessions given by GEOS reassured expatriates before they left on assignment.
International Security - Mining PRE-PROJECT : STRATEGIC MONITORING - MAY 2005 A mining corporation needed to conduct a security assessment on site. It called on GEOS to conduct a comprehensive quality control audit. GEOS performed the security audit. Our experts proposed solutions for the different security- related issues encountered, installed resources and equipment required to improve security levels on site. Our security teams then supervised compliance with the plans and procedures as recommended in the security audit. GEOS detected security anomalies and corrected them. The mining corporation is now protected from certain security risks which had gone undetected and could have had major negative impact on the project.
International Security - Oil & Gas PRODUCTION : CRISIS MANAGEMENT - WEST AFRICA - AUGUST 2005 An employee of an oil & gas major was kidnapped in a high-risk region by rebel militia. The rebels exerted pressure on the corporation in order to obtain a large ransom. The company called on GEOS to manage the crisis and to establish talks with the rebels. GEOS first set up a crisis centre. A crisis coordinator and negotiator appointed by GEOS Group Director of Operations were dispatched to the region. They worked as liaison between the client, the rebels and other stakeholders concerned. One of our IT Security experts made sure that communications were secure. An analyst from the GEOS Tracking Centre conducted intelligence research and assessment. Our legal team managed the contractual aspects and logistics. The employee of the oil corporation was released and the ransom demanded was reduced. GEOS then prepared the client for the post-crisis management phase (media training, executive summary, feedback and lessons learnt).
International Security - Oil & Gas CONSTRUCTION OF PIPELINE - CHAD / CAMEROON, 2000-2005 For five years, GEOS managed the security of the biggest petroleum construction project in Africa. Our organisation, teams, expertise and fluency in local culture based on our socio-economic approach, all favored a sustainable development plan. The new environment that emerged due to work by GEOS allowed project management to respect deadlines, handle incidents and enabled over 2000 expatriates to work in complete security.
Safety / Security - Energy SECURITY OF INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR – ANNUAL SINCE 2005 A French energy major traveling to an international seminar held in a foreign country asked GEOS to provide security for delegation members. GEOS ensured pre and post-departure security procedures for all delegation members, and protected both the main venue and surrounds. GEOS provided personal security details to key corporation managers and a comprehensive journey management service. GEOS implemented counter-measures to protect corporate data and information at the seminar (bug detection and sweep to ensure the confidentiality of meetings, protection of documents). GEOS coordinated all its actions with official security services.
International Security - Mining DEMOBILIZATION : OPERATIONAL SUPPORT - JANUARY 2006 Following the construction phase of a project, the gradual replacement of local workforce by TCN production phase management staff is underway. This phase is critical for labour relations and presents technical challenges as well. The mining firm requests GEOS to manage this delicate transition phase. GEOS establishes a "response team" in charge of planning for and mitigating the impact of any security incident. The team uses mediation skills in order to defuse any potential risk. The GEOS experts train local staffs who then take charge of security tasks for the production phase. No crisis to date for our client, and the replacement of local staff was conducted without any Lost Time Incidents.
International Security - Construction CARACAS METRO CONSTRUCTION PROJECT- terminated in 2006 This major contract for the security of works on the extension of the Caracas - Los Teques metro line was performed by GEOS Latin America staff who for a period of 8 months performed all security coordination tasks on the different construction sites. The metro line was opened on November 3, 2006.
Consultancy and Engineering - Mining CONSTRUCTION : SOCIO-ECONOMIC PROGRAMME - OCTOBER 2007 A mining company decides to establish a mineral extraction operation in a protected zone renowned for its biodiversity. The project will attract a large migrant workforce to a sparsely populated region and the project could threaten the delicate social, economic and environmental balance. The corporation calls on GEOS in order to assess and control these potential risks. The GEOS Risk Advisory Bureau drafts security plans and procedures. Our staff coordinates security action, ensure quality control and train local personnel as part of a sustainable development approach. No crisis to date. The impact on the local population is beneficial and the project is conducted in an environmentally responsible way.
Consultancy and Engineering - ITB ITB MAJOR PROJECT SECURITY ENGINEERING - MAGHREB In order to best reply to the ITB issued for a millions of Euros project in Maghreb, an Italian/French Joint venture requires GEOS help to scrutinize the security appendix of the project. The department makes the appropriate assessment of the risk linked to the project, conceives and proposes a global architecture and the related cost estimate to secure the construction yards, life camps and logistical floods.
Consultancy and Engineering - Water SECURITY AUDIT / AUDIT AND ITS The Management of a major waterworks distributing drinkable water to a European capital city seeks to implement preventive measures to protect this highly sensitive business. They ask GEOS to secure their activity. Given the importance of the data routed from one production site to another, GEOS devised a global system, that gives equal priority to access control and data communications integrity.
