GEOS EUIR has been based in Brussels since 2008 to ensure close contact with European Institutions and organisations. For over two years, GEOS EUIR has successfully contributed to the perfomance of the following services :
Training of European Commission ECHO personnel. This H.E.A.T. (Hostile Environment Awareness Training) training program develops an effective security culture for the personnel of the Commission in charge of relations with NGOs. Objective : conduct over a 3 year period some twenty training sessions in 5 continents to 600 personnel of the DG ECHO. The GEOS international trainers are all specialists (First Aid, Mine Awareness, Telecommunications, Risk Assessment, Road Maps & Topography, Gender Equality, etc.). This Tender allows GEOS to illustrate its know-how and adaptability by delivering for the first time to one of the largest international donors and contractors an alternative to the usual Anglo-American service providers. Security management of European Commission electoral observation missions Angola (June to October 2008) - Lebanon (April to June 2009))
As part of an international consortium led by the German International Development and Cooperation Agency GTZ, GEOS is in charge of all safety and security issues on operations during European Commission electoral observation missions. With more than 100 independent European observers deployed to guarantee free and fair elections and compliance with democratic standrads and international procedures, these missions are conducted on all continents except for Europe and represent major operational challenges.
GEOS deploys several dozen of its finest international specialists, for these programs, in a range of areas of expertise: close cover protection and security escort services, training, inspection and monitoring, logistics and operational management, deployment, processing and maintenance of communications and computer systems, selection and supervision of local service providers, administrative and financial management of international funds. For the performance of this challenging and ambitious program GEOS and AXA Assistance established the G.E.I.E. EURISMA (European Economic Interest Grouping « EUropean RISk Management ») the leading European safety and security service platform . « FWC BENEFICIARY COUNTRIES » Framework contract As part of the consortium led by the leading European multidisciplinary consulting firm TRANSTEC, GEOS participated in the qualification process for Lot 12 of the European Commission’s largest framework contract. Focused on the provision of experts specialised in crisis management, post-conflict management and humanitarian relief, this challenging contract will see us responding to more than 400 tenders in these fields of expertise from the present to 2013. Security of operational assistance and support missions Haiti 2008 As the leading partner of the public operator of two member states selected by the European Commission to support and assist the Haitian government in the reform of its government institutions GEOS had to mobilise with short notice several of its experts with specialist knowledge of the region. Our work allowed three successives missions to go ahead while guaranteeing the security of the programs. Security of assessment mission in conflict zone Georgia 2008 Following the deployment of Russian armed forces to a Georgian province, a European institution asked GEOS to facilitate and securetheir mission in the zone. In a hostile environment with the presence of explosives, GEOS , succeeded in conducting two successive missions countrywide thanks to a team guided by a Franco-Georgian expert that managed the large on-site GEOS network specialised in relief operations for local populations at risk.
Gaza 2009 Some days after the end of the operation conducted by the Israeli Army in the Gaza Strip, the European institutions deployed experts to assess the needs for civilian infrastructure reconstruction. GEOS ensured the smooth running of this mission by sending Arabic speaking experts and explosives experts dto the Gaza Strip with coordination in Jerusalem. For a period of one month, GEOS organised the journeys of European experts inside the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
