Article R 241-39 and R 241- 40 of French Labour Code provides for « the organization of first
aid to injured and sick persons. »
Article R.241-39 of the French Labour Code makes « mandatory the presence of a staff
member who has received necessary training to provide first aid in the event of an
emergency… »
At the end of the course, an SST (Workplace Safety and Rescue) Certificate is given to candidates
who have taken the entire course and who pass the final test.
In the event that a candidate cannot for reasons of physical fitness complete all the skills required of
the Workplace Safety and Rescue course, the candidate will receive a certificate confirming their
participation in the course.
Under French Law dated 5 December 2002 and Article 4 of Law dated 24 July 2007 that sets the
standard for training course « First Aid and Rescue Level 1 », holders of valid Workplace Safety
and Rescue Certificates are expected to also hold Level 1 First Aid & Rescue Certificates (PSC 1 or
international equivalent).

preserve a victim’s life prior to arrival of rescue service..
